A useful window into the past of Essex genealogy
A very useful book (collection of texts) for clarifying some of the more major 'older' resident families in the county of Essex, England during the 'Early Modern' period of history - 16th/17th Centuries. The main corpus of the book consists of genealogical lists made during several visits to the County of Essex, in 1552, 1558, 1570, 1612 and 1634. Some of the more complex trees take a while to decipher as they are confined to a relatively small page, but I do believe these provide a valuable resource for modern genealogists/historians, as the various trees are often cross-referenced to show where families married into each other. As an amateur historian, genealogist and local of Essex, it's fascinating to see names that are still present in the area, and within my own family tree.
